Time-weighted return (TWR)

A growth measure that removes the effect of deposits and withdrawals, so it reflects trading performance alone.

Time-weighted return chain-links the account’s growth between each deposit or withdrawal, so adding money never counts as a gain and taking money out never counts as a loss. What is left is the return the trading itself produced.

It is the standard way fund performance is reported for exactly this reason: balance-based growth mixes trading skill with how much money moved in and out, and TWR separates them.
